Prof. Dr. Yasemin KIRKGÖZ / Çukurova Üniversitesi

“Exploring Values Education in the Foreign Language Curriculum at Primary Level in Turkey”

Yasemin Kırkgöz is a Professor of English Language Teaching at Çukurova University, Turkey. After completing her high school education in Central Liverpool College in England, she received her BA and Master’s at Çukurova University. She completed her second Master’s and Doctoral work at the University of Aston in the UK. During the years 1990-2002, she was the Curriculum Development Coordinator and teacher trainer of the Centre for Foreign Languages of Çukurova University, where she also worked as the vice director and director. For a long time she acted as Head of the Foreign Languages Department. Her main research interests include language policy and practices particularly in primary and higher education, curriculum design and innovation management, teaching English to young learners, problem-based learning in ELT, English medium instruction in higher education, and pre-service and in-service teacher education. She has authored many articles and book chapters on these topics in both national and international refereed journals as well as reviewing several books. She has been involved in writing the new primary ELT curriculum. She has conducted several projects. Her recent nationally-funded project focusses on school-university collaborative action research with in-service teachers of English in primary education. Her co-edited book Key Issues in English for Specific Purposes in Higher Education is published by Springer in 2018. She received various awards, including the Third Annual David E. Eskey Memorial Award for Curricular Innovation for her publication Innovation as a Curriculum Renewal Process in a Turkish University in 2006, and the Leadership and Management Special Interest Group (SIG) award from IATEFL in 2013.

Dr. Ali Fuad SELVİ / Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi -Kuzey Kıbrıs Kampüsü

“Being a Global Englishes Language Teacher Educator: Opportunities and Challenges”

Ali Fuad Selvi is an Assistant Professor of TESOL and Applied Linguistics and the Chair of the Teaching English as a Foreign Language Program at Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus. His research interests include Global Englishes and its implications for language learning, teaching, teacher education and language policy/planning; the issues related to (in)equity, professionalism, marginalization and discrimination in TESOL; and second language teacher education. He served as the Area Editor for NNEST volume of The TESOL Encyclopedia of English Language Teaching (published by Wiley in 2018), coauthored Teaching English as an International Language (with Bedrettin Yazan, published by TESOL Press in 2013) and co-edited Conceptual Shifts and Contextualized Practices in Education for Glocal Interaction (with Nathanael Rudolph, published by Springer in 2018). In addition to his scholarship in these areas, he was recently recognized as one of TESOL International Association’s 30 Up and Coming Leaders in recognition of his potential to “shape the future of both the association and the profession for years to come.”

Dr. Ali KARAKAŞ / Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy Üniversitesi

“Addressing the policy-practice divide in foreign language education policy in Turkey: A focus on ELT curricula”

Dr Karakaş is currently working as Assistant Professor in the department of English  Language Teaching at Mehmet  Akif Ersoy  University, Burdur, Turkey.  He earned his PhD in Applied Linguistics from Southampton University,   UK.   He’s also a postdoctoral member oftheCentre for    Global    Englishes, Southampton University, UK. His main research interests include Global  Englishes, English as a  Lingua  Franca, Language  Policy and Planning, and Teacher Education.

Doç. Dr. Ahmet BAŞAL / Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi

“Yabancı dil eğitim materyalleri geliştirme ve sınıf aktiviteleri oluşturmada derlem kullanımı”

Ahmet Başal, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Department of Foreign Languages Education at Yildiz Technical University in Turkey. His research publications and research interests include teacher education, vocabulary teaching, computer assisted language learning, web-based language learning and teaching, and materials development.

Dr. Betül BAL GEZEGİN / Amasya Üniversitesi

“Veri yönlendirmeli öğrenme yaklaşımının yabancı dil öğretiminde uygulanması”

Betül Bal Gezegin works as an Assistant Professor in the department of English Language Teaching at Amasya University, Turkey where she mainly teaches courses of research methods, language acquisition, material development, CALL and methodology courses. She is currently the head of Foreign Language Education program and English Preparatory School. She holds a PhD in Foreign Language Education at Middle East Technical University. She obtained her MA degree at Georgia State University, Applied Linguistics program in the USA as a Fulbright scholar. Her academic interests mainly lie within the domains of Corpus Linguistics, Intercultural Communication, CALL and ESP/EAP. Her latest publications include book chapters and research articles on corpus-based investigation of academic writing, metadiscourse markers in writing, teaching writing, and corpora and language teaching.

Dr. Erdem AKBAŞ / Erciyes Üniversitesi

“Derlem Dilbilimi, Dil Öğretimi ve Öğretmen Eğitimi”

Erdem AKBAS holds his PhD from University of York, UK (2014) and now works at the Department of English Language Teaching at Erciyes University, Turkey. He has participated and presented his research extensively at various reputable international conferences, and published articles in national and international journals/books. He is in the editorial team of Lingua, Iberica, Eurasian Journal of Applied Linguistics, and International Journal of Applied Linguistics & English Literature as a reviewer. His research interests include Discourse Analysis & Language Teaching; Written Discourse Analysis; Teaching Academic Writing; Language Curriculum Design & Evaluation; Contrastive Rhetoric. He has recently edited an international book and a special issue on Metadiscourse and Language Teaching.
